In the game, the player fights along Deejab and Delinda against evil King Etes to turn the city of Diab back into the Golden City. The King has gotten rid of any exercise opportunity in the city and instead is feeding the population unlimited amounts of free junk food. The only way to win the fight is by making healthy lifestyle choices, such as eating right and exercising, in order to defeat King Etes and his guards.

Escape from Diab was developed by Archimage in Texas, in collaboration with the Children’s Nutrition Research Center of Houston’s Baylor College of Medicine. The video game, due to be release next year, can be played on the web, PCs, handhelds and Nintendo’s Gamecube. Escape from Diab had been nominated for the INDEX: Award as well as the 2007 Webby Award. To get a feeling of the game and meet the characters, watch the trailer.

“World Without Oil is an alternate reality game funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and ITVS. It’s an online game, with the premise that we have reached peak-oil. The site features a ‘reality dashboard’, which shows fictional gas prices, fuel shortages, and other metrics for chaos, suffering and economic impact for different parts of the country, updated every day. The aim is to investigate the many possible socio-economic outcomes of running out of oil, and to entertain at the same time.

If you want to get involved, then you are invited to write blog posts, create videos, take photos and use any other means necessary to document what life is like in this fictional post-oil world.

The idea is half-fiction, half investigative process – the game’s motto is, ‘Play it, before you live it’. It launched on Monday, and people have already submitted hundreds of documents, which you can freely browse. There is also an official ‘back-story’, written by the game’s organisers which will be used to introduce new events and circumstances. For instance, the latest game updates include instructions on how to throw fuel-free parties. If all this sounds interesting, but slightly confusing, then don’t worry – that’s the idea. this game is based on warcraft 3’s element tower defense and the starcraft turret defense game play. prevent the waves of monsters from getting to the castle by building element towers near the path. choose from a number of different elements to build towers. when you click on a tower that has been built, the build menu becomes an upgrade menu allowing you to modify your towers and make them better. the monsters will spawn (eeew!) every 20 seconds, those prolific b*stards! they will become stronger with every wave. if your towers do not defend sufficiently and fail to kill monsters, a civilian of your castle will die. you lose the game when you have no more civilians left.

Player advancement is different depending on which team you are on. As a human, players are rewarded with credits for each alien kill. These credits may be used to purchase new weapons and upgrades from the “Armoury.” The alien team advances quite differently. Upon killing a human foe, the alien is able to evolve into a new class. The more kills gained the more powerful the classes available.

The overall objective behind Tremulous is to eliminate the opposing team. This is achieved by not only killing the opposing players but also removing their ability to respawn by destroying their spawn structures.

Cave Story, or Doukutsu Monogatari, is a Japanese freeware side-scrolling platformer game developed by StudioPixel. It has been translated into English by Aeon Genesis Translations and will have an official translation script published sometime in the near future.

Cave Story is really one of those games that can be considered a masterpiece of game design. There are so many wonderful and classic gaming elements, that I cannot even begin to describe just one quality well enough to say “It is for this one reason alone that Cave Story is a great game.” There is just so much effort, originality and ingenuity behind this game and it really shows more and more as you play through it.

The developer, Pixel spent five years making this game as fun and as great as it is by adding solid controls, smooth gameplay, a great cast of characters and dialogue, an interesting plot, good music and beautiful old-school 2-D artwork. And on top of all this added multiple endings, several boss battles, tons of items to collect, all kinds of added secret bonuses and special challenges, various and considerably different methods of playing through the game depending on your actions, competition ranking features and an extremely high replay value. For a freeware game it is fairly lengthy too. Cave Story is by far the best freeware game I have ever had the honor of playing through and certainly one of the best games I’ve played.

The gameplay plays like a combination of various NES/Famicom games. Some that come to mind are Metroid, Castlevania, Megaman, Blaster Master and Monster Mash. Pixel’s art style and character design and boss battles are very reminiscent of Treasure games, like Gunstar Heroes, which happens to be one of my personal favorite games of all time. So if you are a fan of any of these titles, then you are in for a real treat.

After years and years of being abused by snot-nosed, spoiled generation XBox kids sporting zombie expressions and having no ambitions of aspiring for successful lives, the cuddly plush toys, belonging to these generation brats, now discarded to the side, must fend for themselves and somehow manage to live out the rest of their miserable existence having to process all of the beatings they had to endure from their owners.
