podtube
Hardly a day goes by without me watching a video or more at YouTube. They have practically every video from everywhere including the entire French INA archives, which is nearly everything ever played on French TV. The problem with YouTube previously, was that you could only watch videos from the site, and that always bugged me because I like to dissect videos and scrub through them on my own. I didn’t like that I couldn’t do that without always having to go back to YouTube or the site with an embedded video (to YouTube). There was no way to download the videos there. That is over - thanks to PodTube.

This brilliant freeware for Mac by French developers, Djodjo Design, allows you to download any videos you’d like from YouTube and it will place them directly into your iTunes library and you can also transfer music and videos onto your iPod. Later, when you play downloaded videos from YouTube using iTunes, the video is in a tiny screen but it’s much clearer than watching 20/7000 vision clarity videos on YouTube. Note: You must use this application in conjunction with Safari.

podcityguides

Download events and exciting happenings in more than 300 cities worldwide to your beloved iPod. This comes in particularly handy when you go to places like Berlin, Los Angeles or other large city, where you have little info on what’s going on. There are current events so download the files as late as possible before you leave for that city. You can also download movies and movie times, which is a very cool feature. It’s free but you have to register to be able to use the site.

Note: This doesn’t work with 1st and 2nd generation iPods. Your iPod needs to have the “Notes” mode in order to access all this info. And there are no maps except for the extra features that are available for mobile phones and pda’s.

podserve

from podserve:
PodServe gives you a place to upload, host, promote and share your podcast. PodServe makes it easy to start creating podcasts – if you can record an mp3 PodServe will do the rest. Also available are social podcasting and public podcasting.

Social podcasting basically allows you to invite one or more people to join your podcasting effort. For example, had Lincoln and Douglas had access to our Social Podcasting service they could have each added shows or episodes for each of their speeches without the need to coordinate their activities. They would just upload their mp3 to PodServ and subscribers would receive each show or episode automatically. Or lets say you have a ten member book club located across the globe reading ‘long tail’ books like Headhunting in the Solomon Islands. You can create a Social podcast for the club, inviting each member to upload their thoughts into the podcast. Each member would subscribe and by the end of the month (hopefully) everyone has read the book and listened to each others thoughts on it. Social podcasts can be either moderated or un-moderated.

Public podcasting - add a show or episode to your public podcast. Pick a ‘long tail’ topic or subject and let release your podcast into the wild and see what happens. Pick a ‘head of the tail’ topic and watch it explode. Sort of like a public chat room. Public podcasts can be moderated, but why would you do that to yourself?

tunetags

Have you ever realized that many songs do not fit into just ONE Genre? Or, you want to note which songs are good for driving, are domantic, or just about anything else useful to know? You can make playlists for these things, but it would be better if the song itself could be marked with many different keywords, or “tunetags,” that let you know more about each song. Then, smart playlists could be made that show you all your good 80’s driving music, or romantic folk music, or defiant rock music or even music good for getting psyched-up before a competition.

TuneTags lets you mark each song using many tags from a list, or library, of tags. It comes with a starting library of tags, but you can add your your own to the library as you think of new tunetags that describe your music.

It’s your music. Do what you want with it. Do it for free.
There are many good reasons that someone would have to transfer music from her iPod back to her computer. There are many good ways to do it, too. Senuti is the only alternative that will give you the power and convenience that you need, wrapped in an interface that is extremely easy to use, at a cost that you can’t complain about.

Lightning fast.
There’s a little file on your iPod called the iTunesDB file. What does that mean to you? Nothing. What does that mean to me? Everything.

Every bit of information on every song on your iPod is stored in this little file. Every bit of information on your playlists is stored in this file, too. It’s how iTunes knows what’s on your iPod. It’s how your iPod knows what’s there, too. There isn’t a much faster way to figure out what’s on your iPod.

Senuti includes all of the built in options that one would expect to find songs. You can search and sort in any combination of ways that you want. That’s not quite enough sometimes, though. Sometimes you might want to know if you’re copying the right song. Know how it goes, but don’t know if that title is quite right? Play it! That’s right, Senuti will play songs directly off of your iPod. It can even double as a jukebox player for your Shuffle or any other iPod.

Senuti not only reads the playlists that you made on your iPod, but it allows you to transfer them back to your computer as well. A simple drag and drop action within the application will not only copy songs to your computer and and add them to iTunes, but it will make a new playlist with the same name and add all of the songs to that list.

Adding songs to your computer, you’re probably going to add them to iTunes right after that, right? What if you didn’t have to, wouldn’t that be great? Well you don’t have to. Senuti will do all of the work for you. What work you want it to do is up to you. You can have songs added to iTunes if you want. You can have all of your music organized into folders by artist and album, too. The option’s yours.
